Foreign Trade in SAP® S/4HANA®
With S/4HANA, SAP offers an increase in performance and simplification of processes compared to the previous version through consolidation. Unfortunately, for this reason, many foreign trade functions native to SAP ERP are no longer supported in S/4HANA. Here you can find out which export-relevant processes can be mapped and how. This allows you to weigh up whether the purchase of SAP Global Trade System is really worthwhile or whether add-ons are the better solution.

Customs processing in the Business Suite 4 SAP HANA

Add-ons as successors to the foreign trade functions
Many companies are currently still using the so-called foreign trade components under ECC 6.0. With the included functional areas Intrastat, Export Compliance, Preference Processing and Documentary Transactions (Letter of Credit), important tasks in foreign trade can be mapped with the existing resources. The problem is that these foreign trade components are no longer available in their previous form in S/4HANA. The remnants of the “Foreign Trade” functionality from the previous versions R/2 and R/3, which were still created in ECC 6.0, were cleaned up in S/4: The fields from SD-FT (Sales and Distribution – Foreign Trade) and MM-FT (Material Master – Foreign Trade) no longer exist or are no longer filled. This means that in-house developments that use the affected fields cannot be migrated either.
Alternatives for SMEs
Users of SAP Global Trade Services can breathe a sigh of relief. This is because the high level of integration with ECC and GTS also exists for S/4HANA and this is also planned for the future. However, the acquisition of GTS is costly and time-consuming, which is why there is a gap for medium-sized companies. Although the International Trade included in the suite covers basic functions such as Intrastat, a different solution is required for other important tasks such as customs export declarations. The Z components from BEX offer the ideal alternative for this. For example, basic trade functions such as preference calculation can be supplemented by a standard add-on according to specific requirements.

Sanctions list check in S/4HANA
Business Partner reliably against international sanctions lists. The integrated add-on checks automatically in the background when documents are created, changed or created. Definable standard blocks ensure that no violations are possible. An efficient alternative to watchlist screening.

Customizable search logic

Easy to implement plug-ins
The BEX Z components fit perfectly into the familiar workflows of S/4 HANA and take on important key tasks for export success.
The use of standard plugins significantly reduces the implementation effort. For export declarations and sanction site checks, only the transport needs to be imported and simple customizing carried out. This makes it easy to expand the range of functions even after a migration. The SAP standard remains unaffected – all modifications are limited to the BEX namespace.

Preference calculation in S/4 HANA
As the corresponding functions are not mapped in International Trade either, the determination of the origin of goods and preferences is completely missing in S/4. This also applies to the management of long-term supplier declarations.
The solution: A WuP add-on that, similar to GTS, takes the required data from the suite, requests supplier declarations, calculates on this basis using currently applicable agreement rules and finally displays the minimum prices per country in S/4HANA. Or in short: ZGENESYS
